What is zoophil-psychosis*?
noun.

1. A dangerous mental disorder causing a “psychotic love of animals”.
2. A manufactured illness, created by the animal testing industry in 1909, to stigmatize and discredit campaigns opposing vivisection as “crazy” and “sick”.
3. A zine created as a gift for people who are chronically ill & love animals,
and as a radical resource connecting disability & animal liberation.

Who should submit?
Chronically sick, mad-proud & differently abled authors who love animals.

What to submit?
Your voices and stories around the topics of BOTH chronic illness (mental health; pain; trauma; stigmas; self-love; anti-ableism; disability politics) AND animals (nonhumyns; animal solidarity; anti-speciesism; veganism; earthling love; species-inclusive liberation).

We welcome all creative self-expressions!
Submissions can include written word (journals; stories; research papers); poetry and lyrics; visionary and speculative fiction (short stories); self-care food recipes; art and other forms of visual expression; and more! (Word counts are flexible)
Please include: preferred name (anonymous is fine too); pronouns; location; brief description of your identity as the author; brief description of the work you have submitted.

Why contribute?
To share and celebrate our voices & stories in how we identify, struggle, cope, relapse, heal, resist, liberate and love – for ourselves & for the love of animals.

*Please note*
Zoophil-psychosis (and zoophilists) is not the same as Zoophilia (nor zoophiles).
Zoophilists, meaning “animal lovers”, was a word animal advocates openly and positively applied to themselves in the early 1900s – until the term zoophil-psychosis was created as a derogatory diagnostic term.
Zoophilia, meaning a sexual attraction or sexual activity with animals, is a form of animal abuse – and zoophiles being the term associated with people who are sexually inclined to inter-species relationships.
